Using an Analytical Approach to Primary Sources in the Classroom

We invite K-14 educators to this day-long workshop at the Davis Center, where we will use the OPCVL method to analyze primary sources. This session will focus on understanding the origin, purpose, content, and value of various textual and visual sources. By exploring how these different types of sources offer unique insights and have their own limitations, you will gain practical strategies for teaching students to critically engage with historical materials. The workshop will be framed in understanding everyday life in the Soviet Union, which will be supplemented by tapping into Davis Center’s Soviet Poster collection and interview transcripts from the Harvard Project for the Soviet Social System.
