Workshop on Africa and Indian Ocean Worlds: Archeologies of Indenture, Resistance, and Affirmation with Dr. Krish Seetah

Join us to hear from Dr. Krish Seetah (Stanford University) who will discuss the lives of the first indentured workers to arrive in Mauritius, and archeological methods to approach this history. This workshop for 5th-12th grade educators is part of a series that examines histories of Enslavement and Indenture in the Indian Ocean and processes that were coeval with Atlantic labor regimes. Teachers will gain:

  • Geographical context;
  • Conceptual framing;
  • A timeline; Definitions;
  • A review of archeological methods
  • Examples and cases from the Mascarene islands;
  • Resources for teaching this history
