DESCRIPTION:This workshop is the first in a series of three workshops planned for this academic year that will introduce participating educators to new sources on Eurasian history and new skills to explore those resources in the classroom. This is a day-long workshop designed specifically for educators. We will delve into the complex environmental and social consequences of war through the lens of modern Ukraine: destruction\, environmental repercussions\, and the need for reconstructing in order to resurrect the affected nature\, urban spaces\, and cultural heritage of a place. Hosted in collaboration with the Lviv Center for Urban History\, this workshop aims to inform and enrich your teaching toolkit. Participants will meet and hear presentations from several leading experts in the field\, as well as engage in hands-on lesson planning activities utilizing available resources.

DESCRIPTION:Call for Papers\nThe European and Eurasian Undergraduate Research Symposium is an annual event since 2002 designed to provide undergraduate students\, from the University of Pittsburgh and other colleges and universities\, with advanced research experiences and opportunities to develop presentation skills. The event is open to undergraduates from all majors and institutions who have written a research paper from a social science\, humanities\, or business perspective focusing on the study of Eastern\, Western\, or Central Europe\, the European Union\, Russia\, or Central Eurasia. After the initial submission of papers\, selected participants are grouped into panels according to their research topics. The participants then give 10- to 15-minute presentations based on their research to a panel of faculty and graduate students. The presentations are open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Virtual event register here \nUsing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Principles of Economics or Survey of Economics courses can help students bring the global local.  By engaging students with activities and assignments introducing them to the SDGs\, students explore how countries\, governments\, businesses\, consumers\, and individuals make continual economic choices either aligned with or in opposition to the goals.  A supplemental\, yet informal\, curriculum module presents ideas and activities to explore each of the 17 SDGs within the context of learning fundamental economic principles. By integrating these ideas into economics courses\, students can gain a deeper understanding of how economic principles intersect with global sustainability challenges and how economic analysis can help be part of the solution to these challenges.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n2 pm-245 pm Eastern\n1-1:45 Central\nnoon-12:45  Mountain\n11- am-11:45 am Pacific\n\n\nJanet Scott teaches Economics\, International Business\, and Intro to Global Studies at Southeast Community College. Janet has served on the SCC Global Education Team for ten years\, and in 2016 was co-leader for SCC’s service-learning trip to Kenya. Over the last 6 years\, Janet has worked with the Midwest Institute for International/Intercultural Education to develop and share curriculum modules to integrate international content into Principles of Economics courses.

SUMMARY:K-12 Lesson Plan Contest (Fall Semester)
DESCRIPTION:Teachers of all grade levels (K-12) and content areas: You could win cash by entering our lesson plan competition! The deadline to submit lesson plans for consideration in this year’s competition (by email) is December 1\, 2024 (but you are welcome to submit your lessons any time before that). Winners will be announced by January 15\, 2025. \n\nTeachers are invited to submit one or more East Asia-related lesson plans they have created.\nWinning lesson plans will be shared widely with educators through our outreach program.\nThe CEAS Outstanding Lesson Plan Award winner will receive a cash prize of $200. Second-place winner(s) will receive a cash prize of $100. There will be one first-place winner and two second-place winners. According to university policy\, you must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to be eligible for the cash prize.\nSchool officials of the authors of all lessons chosen for “publication” on our website or other outreach formats will be notified of the teacher’s accomplishment. (Any lessons put on our website remain the property of the teacher who authored the lesson and can be included on other websites/materials as well.)\nLesson plans may be in any content area or at any grade level. They should be in a format ready to be used by other teachers who might not have a strong background in the subject presented and should include a concise outline of the academic K-12 standards addressed. Resources necessary for the lesson plans should be noted\, linked\, or provided\, and if any readings or materials are needed to implement the lesson plan\, they must be submitted along with the lesson plan.\nYou should include your name on the lesson plan. (You may also include your school and your email address if you want\, but it’s not required.)\nPlease send it as a Word document or a PDF\, NOT a Google document.\n\nHow to Enter \n\nEmail your lesson plans to: eas-center@arizona.edu\nPlease include detailed contact info (phone number\, school address\, school and district name) in the body of the email.
