SUMMARY:Repositioning Africa's Place in the Classroom: Knowledge\, Communication\, and Innovation
DESCRIPTION:All higher education instructors are cordially invited to attend the annual Repositioning Africa’s Place in the Classroom: Knowledge\, Communication\, and Innovation (RAPC)\, a virtual teaching & learning conference.  The 2025 RAPC will take place on Friday\, June 6th\, from 9:45 am-3 pm. Instructors across disciplines are invited to this day-long workshop to gain frames and strategies to engage their students with Africa’s central role in a rapidly changing global context. Community college educators are especially encouraged to attend. \nPresentations will highlight the importance of creative knowledge production\, the use of alternative media to speak back to dominant perspectives\, inventive ways to rewrite Africa’s rich history of freedom and resistance\, and the innovative contributions of African youth in reshaping the world. The themes addressed will reposition Africa in a dynamic classroom where student learning is transformed. Each session will provide practical tips to empower instructors to bring African perspectives and resources to their own disciplinary teaching. \nFree and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:The K-16 Education Outreach Program at the African Studies Center hosts an annual series of book group meetings wherein participants of all ages and backgrounds are invited to read and discuss engaging novels by African authors. \nWe offer two book discussion groups: one focuses on African literature written in or translated to English\, and another one focuses on African literature written in or translated to French\, discussed in French. The English book group is now in its 16th year. See the full list of books read over fifteen years here. \nThese programs are free and open to all. Participants must procure a copy of their own books. \nJoin us to read Imbolo Mbue’s powerful novel How Beautiful We Were with contemporary themes that will speak to all on January 24th\, 2024.
